Shabbat

Shabbat, (Sabbath) is the weekly moed. The Biblical day begins at sunset, so Shabbat starts on sunset Friday and ends sometime after sunset on Saturday evening.

Preparation for Shabbat actually begins about mid-week. At this time we start making plans for Shabbat dinner, and a list of things to be done, shopping, etc. From sunset on Thursday to sunset on Friday is considered Preparation Day. It culminates at sunset Friday with the Erev Shabbat meal.

Below are two articles which offer explanation and help on how we prepare for Shabbat, both physically and spiritually.

At present MONJA is developing a halacha for Erev Shabbat (Friday night) service, so that we will all be on one accord. If you have not established an Erev Shabbat service in the home, you may use the following until MONJA has released one: http://www.sarahstent.info/images/Erev_Shabbat_Service.pdf   Feel free to save this copy to your computer and print as many copies as you need.

Listen to me, you who follow after righteousness, you who seek Yahweh: look to the rock whence you were hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence you were dug. Look to Abraham your father, and to Sarah who bore you; for when he was but one I called him, and I blessed him, and made him many.

Isaiah 51:1-2
