Passover Lamb Vs the Easter Ham

by  Elizabeth Koldoff

One day as I thought on such great things
Like turtles and rain clouds and dolls made of strings.
My mind, as it would, just happened to wander
On greater things, I began to ponder.

Like, why would my Savior, who died for all who dream
Be remembered by a pork product He called unclean?
Why would something God calls a detestable thing
Be attached to an event that would change the whole scene?

Now, during the ‘last supper’ which would Passover be
He said do this now in remembrance of me.
Like the Passover Lamb, they took my Savior’s last breath
Blood shed to keep me from the angel of death.

For sin which, by Scripture, means I broke the law
The Torah of life, break one, you’ve broke all.
I know that my lack of holiness means
That I deserve death unless fully redeemed.

But now we forget the former, do away with the old
Easter is the new day we all are now told.
Origins are sketchy and meanings are blurred
Do this “for Christ” is all that is heard.

Although my Messiah is Jew through and through
Many turn away from Passover and do something new.
The good with the bad, the pure and profane
Mixed worship is Baal’s religion which Yahweh disdains

Trust and obey, the old song says we should do
Trust in Messiah and obey what is true.
Why has the truth been turned into lies
The law that was good now has been denied.

I don’t understand, my mind further would explore,
Why now are these laws something we can ignore?
The same laws I broke and He died to relieve
I am now told are nothing more than a burden it seems.

Why would my Passover Lamb need to die
To redeem us from laws that no longer apply?
Some say they are burdensome, needless, and drab
I say they are the only foundation I have.

Each ordinance and command carefully laid out
By my God, my Savior, in whom I trust without doubt.
For a life built on this foundation of love
Will result in blessings poured out from above.

So, as spring approaches and holy days abound
I choose the one that remains the most sound.
No Easter Ham wrapped in all it’s pagan history
No, it’s Passover and the Lamb who died for me.

Listen to me, you who follow after righteousness, you who seek Yahweh: look to the rock whence you were hewn, and to the hole of the pit whence you were dug. Look to Abraham your father, and to Sarah who bore you; for when he was but one I called him, and I blessed him, and made him many.
